Contrairement au commentaire précédent qui n'a probablement pas compris le principe de ce livre (ou peut être tout simplement même pas lu ce dernier ?), oui ce livre est fortement politique ET C'EST TANT MIEUX!Ça fait du bien de voir des auteur/es engagé/es parler de Star Wars et mettre en avant les figures féminines de l'univers de G.Lucas. Et ça fait du bien de voir des femmes ou des personnes non-binaires ecrirent sur star wars.Illustrations superbes et textes souvent intéressant, ce livre permet de découvrir certains personnages parfois peu connu de la saga.Je recommande vivement ce livre (malheureusement uniquement disponible en anglais pour l'instant).
Acheté chez AlbumJe suis extrêmement déçu de ce livre,Ce qui est terrible c'est qu'esthétiquement il est très beau, la maquette est léchée et engageante et les illustration sont entre plutôt belles et vraiment magnifiques. Gros problème,son contenu est incroyablement politisé, c'en est presque parodique. L'éditeur met en avant que les illustrateurs sont tous des femmes ou des gens "non-banary" quoi que ça veuille dire. C'est d'une violence symbolique difficile à croire et un pas gigantesque fait vers le communautarisme idéologique. C'est vraiment dommage que Star Wars soit utilisé à ces fin.
Absolutely amazing! I love this book! The color is amazing and is a great gift for your home or Star Wars fan.The only two downsides are a small scuff on the front portion of the protector which I suspect came during shipping, and on some of the pages you can see some of the color transfer from the artwork on the corresponding pages.Otherwise these are minuscule details and this book is so fabulous! I cannot wait to showcase it!
The quality of the art in this book is outstanding. The passion for each of the subjects shines through the art, and the artists were chosen well. Amy Ratcliffe does a great job of establishing the character within the Star Wars Universe, the impact the characters have both in world and in real life, and the way that the actresses portraying the characters either on screen, with their voices, or with their words and art contributed and enriched the world of Star Wars. This is not an Essential Guide of old with home world, affiliation, etc. listed out on a stat sheet. This is a celebration of some of the best characters Star Wars has to offer. Highly recommended for fans of Star Wars art.
I love the art!! But I disliked The Last Jedi!! You wanted a movie filled with strong women I get it. But why oh why did you Kill off Tallie Lintra everywhere I've looked she is described as a great pilot someone who worked on a farm becoming an ace A-Wing Pilot catching the eye and impressing Poe Dameron. A very skilled female pilot which the Star wars universe needs especially an A-Wing pilot. Know any notable female A-Wing pilots I think not!! BTW her A-Wing was parked near the blast doors Poe ran passed her A-wing when the explosion happened and also the new RZ-2 A-wings are equipped with shields (mentioned in cross sections book) its quite possible she can survive you can even see the back of her A-Wing before those blast doors close, cant see the cockpit but still. At the end of the day why give Tallie a great background just to kill her off? Bring Her back and I might give Star Wars Another chance. Sorry For the Rant But seriously we need to bring Tallie Back!!As for the book the art is pretty good with small descriptions on the side. Some of the women featured are heros of course villains and heck even female Droids wow!! Had some female characters I completely forgot about. The book is a short read its a nice addition to my heart broken Star Wars shelf. This is a way better read than the Expanded novel of The Last Jedi. Its Actually a Good read great back story for some of the women. Good read for any age or anyone really you should add this to your Star Wars book collection.
My girls were really excited when they saw there was a book focused on the women of their favorite galaxy far, far away. I started reading it to them last night and they are loving everything about it. For their dad who saw the original trilogy in the theater, it's been a joy to help them discover some of the characters they hadn't met yet from the books. I can't wait to read more tonight. Amy and her lineup of incredibly talented artists have created a book that they are going to treasure for a long, long time.
For the TL;DR crowd, let me just say this is a great book to read with kids (girls and boys) in the 4-12 age range. The illustrations really complement the narrative, and the format of the book allows you to jump around from character to character.For anyone who will forgive me being a bit more verbose, I’d like to call out that this is book is an excellent complement to introducing young kids to Star Wars. I need to spend a bit of time reviewing Lucasfilm content generally, and then returning to this book’s fit with that content. As a father of three young kids (12 & 9yr old girls, 5yr old boy), I owe a debt of gratitude to Dave Filoni for the creation of the Clone Wars & Rebels television shows. Both the content style, as well as the increased diversity & gender inclusion, made it so much easier for my kids to relate to the universe of Star Wars. Ahsoka, the female padawan of Anakin, is a great example of this. Her character, and the character’s struggles within the Jedi Order, spoke to my kids (especially my daughters) in a way that the original trilogy didn’t. The animated content has made all of this, from conventions, to comics, to live action movies, easier to share with my kids because it provides a great entry point to the franchise.To return to the book, this is where Amy Ratcliffe’s “Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy†excels as primer for the Lucasfilm universe. She’s done an outstanding job profiling the (now) many female characters in Star Wars, demonstrating their strengths & faults. The book marks the inclusion progress that Lucasfilm has made, and Amy conveys this from a positive position by showing the contributions each character makes to a grander narrative. I would encourage anyone with young kids to share this with them, as it is a great opportunity to develop their interest in Star Wars while also broadening your own.One final point: while the characters profiled are female, please don’t think of this as a “girls†book. My 5yr old son has enjoyed these stories being read to him (frequently by my 9yr old daughter). It helps inform his understanding of the Star Wars universe, where he sees movies, cartoons, comics, and video games with lead & supporting characters that happen to be female (rather than standing out because they are female).
